COVENANT'S HISTORY

I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it that men should fear before him. ...Ecclesiastes 3: 14.

Our History

In 1887, Charles C. Hayswood met with a group in a hall at the corner of Fayetteville Street and Ray Place. Later, around 1890, this small band moved to a hall near the corner of Parrish and Mangum Streets. The Rev. Lewis D. Twine, met with the group as a Sunday School. In 1893, this Sunday School was organized into the Twine Memorial Presbyterian Church.

In 1924, the name was changed from Twine Memorial to Pine Street.

In 1945 The Reverend James A. Cannon was installed. The following year, the Church decided to relocate and build a new edifice, starting with an educational building. On the second Sunday in May, 1949, the first morning worship was held in the new church chapel, and the name was changed from Pine Street to Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Since that time, there have been a host of ministers:
