But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the the ministry of the word. ...Acts 6:4
Our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus has blessed Covenant Church for over a century with a ministry of love and service. We have a rich history of Presbyterianism, faith and dedication to do the Lord's work.
Our Savior went around proclaiming the Kingdom of God to all who desired salvation. The gospels record that He was involved in three activities: teaching, preaching and healing. This is the legacy that the church is to fulfill. To teach the Word Of God; to preach the good news that salvation is found through faith in Christ Jesus; to heal the wounds of the world
.We see the church, not as a building, but composed of people within the walls. So whatever we do, whatever we say, wherever we go, we are the church. We have dedicated our lives to fulfilling the call of Christ Jesus to love one another. We have stated that we desire to treat all as children of God and to grant them care, nurture and respect.
We are a diverse church, upon simple observation, one would see a typical Presbyterian congregation. But there are many layers underneath. We have established ministries which reach out to youth. The Intergenerational Choir sings each second Sunday of the month. The youth group meets each third Sunday following morning service. The Children's Choir shares its voices with us on the third Sunday. We have programs for those retired: daytime meetings, Bible Study, Circle meetings for Presbyterian Women. We are a congregation which seeks to be attentive to all its members and their needs. Ministries to men and college students are an intimate part of who we are.
We have a call from Jesus Christ to service in the community. Vacation Bible School, and Summer Day Camp are a part of our outreach to community children. Our members can be found throughout the Durham and Chapel Hill areas working for the betterment of the lives of others.
There is much more we could say about Covenant. But we feel that our commitment speaks for itself in the Durham community. These pages have been generated from a desire to share the richness of our history as well as the quality of our ministry. We hope that you will find that Covenant is a place that you would like to have as part of your life as we journey through life. God continues to bless us with faith and the knowledge that we serve a good and loving Savior.
We invite you to be an active part of the life of the Covenant family and allow us to be one of your support networks. We encourage you to come and bring others with you to see what life at Covenant is like. It is our prayer that all might know of the grace and love of Jesus as He continues to call unto Him those who are in need of a relationship with God.
God Bless, The Rev.Jimmie R. Hawkins
